Within the framework of “EcoTech 2015” exhibition, KazWaste, Kazakhstan Waste Management Association, in cooperation with ITECA, held a round table on “Development Problems for the Industry of Industrial and Communal and Waste Management”.

The members of the KazWaste Association, representatives of industrial enterprises, industry associations, waste management enterprises and other interested parties took part in the round table. A total of more than seventy persons participated in the event.

Vera Mustafina, the Executive Director of the KazWaste Association, reported on global tendencies in waste management. In her presentation, she showed statistical data on waste management in the world, the impact of wastes on human health, climate changes and the need for a transition towards circular economy.

Ayjan Ryskulova, the Coordinator of the Association, told about the activity, objectives and tasks of the Association. The round table participants suggested maintaining a database of waste management enterprises on the Association’s website and putting up a waste exchange where enterprises can purchase or realise their wastes.

Galina Viktorovna Artyukhina, the Executive Director of the Association of Natural Use for Sustainable Development, highlighted problematic issues of waste management. During the presentation, the representatives of industrial enterprises asked questions and spoke out on the burning issues of the current period.

Indira Medetova, the representative of West Dala, raised issues of interaction between waste management enterprises and subsoil users. She told about the problems that waste management enterprises face when subsoil users participate in purchases.

Dias Sarsenov, the representative of KazWaste Management, told about the new project on waste incineration. His speech led to a passionate debate on development prospects for the industry of collection and treatment of municipal solid waste in Kazakhstan.

Yuliya Dushkina, the Leading Specialist of the Centre “Cooperation for Sustainable Development”, highlighted the problems of implementation of regulation standards for the industry of waste management. She told about the current state of the standard base and development prospects for standardization in the field of wastes. The draft national standard for qualification requirements to waste management enterprises was presented for the participants’ consideration.

The participants of the round table had an opportunity to ask their questions and get the answers to them from the leading specialists in the field of waste management in Kazakhstan.

The round table ended with the general discussion and the adoption of resolution.
