Kazakhstan will recycle 100% of household waste by 2035
Kazakhstan plans to recycle 100% of household waste by 2035.This was announced today by the Minister of Environmental Protection Nurlan Kapparov at the Government meeting, presenting a draft program for the modernization of solid waste management.

Kazakhstan plans to recycle 100% of household waste by 2035.This was announced today by the Minister of Environmental Protection Nurlan Kapparov at the Government meeting, presenting a draft program for the modernization of solid waste management.
According to the minister, the program sets the goal, to increase the percentage of separate collection of bio-waste from 10% to 80% by 2050; it is planned to increase the separate collection of packaging waste from 10% in 2020 to 80% by 2050. The system of collecting and disposing of hazardous household waste will be introduced, also the share of separate collection of this type of waste will be increased from 35% in 2020 to 80% by 2050. According to the program, the proportion of sanitary landfills will increase to 100% by 2050, at the same time the goal is to increase the share of sanitary landfills to 50% by 2020. The minister said that an important indicator is to increase production of “green” energy from waste, particularly, it means getting gas from processing of the biodegradable fraction for the production of heat and electricity. “We plan to increase the share of waste used for the production of “green” energy from 5% in 2020 to 30% in 2050″, – concluded Nurlan Kapparov.
