Kazakhstan Embarks on a Green Growth Path

on . Posted in Press Releases

Availability of ecologically clean technologies is still the central aspect of the global transition to a resource-efficient, green economy. In many cases, replacement of outdated technologies with modern sustainable alternatives can ensure cost cutting, improvement of human health, and creation of green jobs and, at the same time, provide a positive impact on the environment.

In an attempt to save money and natural resources, Kazakhstan is looking for ways to use green technologies and transit to a green economy. It is these topics that will be discussed in Almaty at the conference Mechanisms of Cooperation for Transition to a Green Economy: From Strategy to Practice with about 30 speakers to deliver their reports. The conference is held as part of the annual EcoTech – EcoTechnologies and EcoServices for Industrial and Municipal Sectors and WaterTech – Water & Water Technologies International Exhibitions. The events are organised by Iteca Kazakhstan Exhibition Company. The exhibitions will be deployed in Pavilion 9, Atakent Exhibition Centre, and open for visitors from 19 to 21 this September. The conference will start at the Bakshasarai Reception House on Day One to be carried on in the Workshop Room at the exhibition on Day Two. The conference is co-organised by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).

It is assumed that the economic policy and the environmental protection and natural resource use policy should be mutually complementary and be developed in close association with each other. The key role in this case should be played by innovations.

The exhibitions demonstrate equipment for water, air, and gas treatment and purification, water conditioning and water supply, waterproofing for various industrial and civil facilities, wireless telemetry solutions, trash and waste recycling equipment, equipment to produce biogas from biomass, analytical laboratory and industrial equipment, and a lot more.

The EcoTech 2012 and WaterTech CA 2012 Exhibitions are attended by 30 exhibiting companies from 8 countries: Germany, Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, and Sweden.

Innovations displayed at the exhibitions include:

  • equipment to disinfect air in crowded areas in indoor facilities and transport, UV systems to disinfect various surfaces in food and pharmaceutical industries (LIT Research & Production Company, Russia);
  • fuel tanks, vessels to store industrial and drinking water, fertilisers and chemicals, local treatment plants (manufactured by KazPlast, Kazakhstan);
  • formed parts and fittings of high-strength cast iron, including butterfly disc valves and check valves, gate valves, and hydrants (first time presented in Kazakhstan’s market by Keulahuette GmbH, Germany);
  • wireless telemetry solutions to provide for environmental and industrial monitoring system building, traffic flow optimisation, and occupational health and safety (Masat BV, an engineering company);
  • sewage and industrial wastewater drying and thermal treatment units; units for thermal treatment of wet products for subsequent production stages; soil decontamination units; waste plastics and polymers drying and recycling units (first time presented in Kazakhstan by VOMM Impianti e Processi S.p.A.);
  • waste recycling machinery and equipment to provide services in domestic, municipal and industrial spheres of human activity (first time presented at the exhibition by Pasteur Holding);
  • gas treatment equipment to help reduce the impact of industrial processes on the environment, create clean and safe working space, and improve the efficiency of production processes (Nederman, Sweden/Russia); and
  • packaged solutions in the field of industrial gas cleaning and air suction (Profair Processing, Kazakhstan), etc.

The EcoTech 2012 and WaterTech Central Asia 2012 Exhibitions offer a comprehensive business programme involving representatives of government agencies, industrial and municipal housing sectors, national experts, executives and environmentalists of major industrial enterprises, representatives of eco-technologies and eco-services suppliers, as well as specialised research and design institutes, centres, associations, and non-governmental organisations.

Alongside the EcoTech Conference, the exhibition venue will host a roundtable held by the Sustainable Development Promotion Centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with Kazakhstan Rubber Recycling devoted to the problems and development prospects of a used tires collecting and recycling system in Kazakhstan.

On Day Two, the Workshop Room at the exhibition will see the first nation-wide discussion about competitive “green” small and medium businesses (SMB) held by CAREC as part of the new Targeted Awareness Raising for Expanded European Union - Central Asia Cooperation Project financed by the European Union (EU).

Also, the exhibition will incorporate a series of presentations devoted to such topics as: Modern Methods to Control Quality of Water for Use in Laboratories and Industry (by EcoInstrument, Russia) and Software to Tackle Industrial Ecology and Environmental Monitoring Problems - Demonstration of the Latest Innovations and Advice on Ecolog Software Tools (by Integral, Russia).

Undoubtedly, the EcoTech and WaterTech Central Asia Exhibitions contribute to creating favourable conditions for further development of Kazakhstan’s economy while maintaining the ecological balance, establishing business contacts, expanding sales markets, setting up joint ventures, promoting investment projects, environmental technologies and special equipment onto the market of the country, and facilitating exchange of international experience. The EcoTech Exhibition will give natural resources companies a unique opportunity to demonstrate their nature protection programmes and achievements in improving the environment.

Official support for EcoTech and WaterTech CA is provided by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Committee for Water Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty City Administration, and Almaty City Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. The business partners of the events are the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Kazakhstan Petroleum Lawyers Association (KPLA), Sustainable Development Promotion Centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sustainable Production and Consumption Centre, and Kazakhstan Association of Nature Users for Sustainable Development (KAPUR).
